In my first day of teaching practice, I went to Sharjah American International School in Umm Al Quwain. I introduced myself to the principal, she greeted me and told me that I’m going to practice with miss Christelle in KG2b then we walked to the classroom. In the beginning, I was worried because the school didn’t accept me in the first day but then they called and apologized about not seeing the college e-mail so I started going to the school on Tuesday, February 28. After that I met my teacher miss Christelle and actually I didn’t talk a lot with her but I gave her the booklet and explained everything for her. There are several things that I benefit from her in the first day like using the reward chart to motivate children behave well. I have seen a student called Eissa who really loves the stickers and he doesn’t like to remove his stickers. When he was noisy and didn’t sit in his place, the teacher said: okay I will remove your sticker, and he strongly refused and sat quietly in his place so the teacher see him behave well and do not remove his sticker. I also profited from her while she was reading the story, I wrote down things that she did to teach a story like using different body language, gestures and using different tones.
Journal 2:
In this day I explained my first lesson and miss Maryam observed me. The lesson went well and everything was fine. Children participated in all the activities and they behaved well. They understood the lesson and the evidence is that they answered the online questions correctly. There are several things that I need to improve in my teaching. First, dealing with misbehaved student. There was a student who always doesn't wait for his turn to do the activity so he move from his place without asking, and I need to know the right way to deal with this student. Second, I need to be more comfortable and raise my voice while explaining a lesson because in my first teaching I wasn't confident but it went well and I achieved my goals.
Journal 3:
In the last day, I was happy and sad at the same time. I was happy because I improved lots of things in myself like: the way of teaching, planning for lessons and dealing with children. I also achieved my goals which are: classroom management especially behavior management by using the reward system to motivate children behave well and participate in the classroom, and doing a performance art in the class including dance, music and movements. Moreover, I collaborated with my mentor school teacher by asking her and helping her when she asks and when she prepares activities for the class at the end of the day. I was sad because it was my last day to see the children and the teacher. I also brought gifts for the teacher and children and they were enthusiastic and happy.
